Google has been into the VOIP world with
Google Voice.
However Google Voice is set to call from your browser.
Gizmo5 came up with a SIP router that used Google Voice accounts and allowed you to make calls similar to Vonage or any other VOIP / SIP provider.
The low
rates of Google per minute calls are extremely competitive. They are lower than any price out there. In addition, they have no monthly fee.
Comparatively Vonage has increased their monthly rates and at the same time have higher per minute
rates for International calls compared to Google.
I do alot of calling. Thousands of minutes a month. I also have sales people. I compared it. Clearly Google is less expensive once you pull out the $35/month or Vonage world fee or $25/month fee.
However, unless you already have a Gizmo 5 account, you can't set up a SIP router for Google Voice, as they are the only provider that can do it ...(I wrote this in August 2010)... Gizmo 5 is not accepting new accounts right now, but keep checking. My understanding is the setup is easy and almost any SIP router will work.
